Understanding the Various Programs Offered Through a Drug Treatment Rehab Center

When selecting a drug treatment rehab center, you will have the option of enrolling in a residential program, a half day program, or an outpatient program. While some treatment centers will tell you which of these programs is most appropriate for you, others will give you a little more freedom to select the best program to suit your needs. In order to make an informed decision, it is helpful to know a bit about each of these types of programs and the pros and cons of each.

Understanding the Residential Treatment Option Offered by a Drug Treatment Rehab Center

If the drug treatment rehab center offers residential treatment, this means you will actually live at the center for a period of time. You will not be allowed to leave the center during your stay time and your actions will be closely monitored. In addition, you will not have frequent contact with your friends and family because visiting times will be restricted.

The residential treatment option is generally the best choice for those who have already gone through an outpatient program or a half day program and have returned to using drugs. In this case, the drug treatment rehab center will need to provide more intense treatment in order to help you get off of drugs again and to make sure you stay off this time.

Residential treatment may also be a good option for you if you do not have a support system of friends and family. If your friends and family are also using drugs, for example, an outpatient program through the drug treatment rehab center may not provide you with the level of support that you need to stay clean because you will be returning to an environment every day that encourages drug use.

If you are addicted to a drug to the point that it is immediately life-threatening or if you suffer from other medical conditions in addition to being addicted to drugs, you should also consider a residential treatment program. In this way, the drug treatment rehab center can more closely monitor your health throughout the rehabilitation process.

Understanding the Half Day Treatment Option Offered by a Drug Treatment Rehab Center

With the half day treatment option, you might spend the entire day at the drug treatment rehab center but you will return home in the evening and during the night. When attending a half day treatment program, you likely will not be able to hold down a job because going to treatment is your full time job. On the other hand, this program still allows you to return home during the evening to be with your family.

A half day treatment program is a good option if you have already attended outpatient treatment and are still using drugs. Even if you have not previously attended outpatient treatment, it can be a good option if you are severely addicted or if you otherwise feel as if outpatient treatment will not provide you with enough support.

If you have a supportive family, half day treatment may be a better option than residential treatment because it allows you to still spend time with your family. In addition, since half day treatment does not completely remove you from your community, you do not have to experience problems with integrating yourself back into the community or explaining your absence.

Understanding the Outpatient Treatment Option Offered by a Drug Treatment Rehab Center

With outpatient treatment, you do not spend a significant amount of time at the drug treatment rehab center. Instead, you may attend counseling or meetings just one day per week or several days per week. You might also alternate between one-on-one counseling and group counseling. In that way, you can work with a counselor to develop and work toward individual goals while still providing support and encouragement through others that are going through the same problems as you.

Outpatient treatment is often the choice of treatment for those that are getting help for a drug addiction for the first time. If you have a supportive family and your drug addiction is not immediately life threatening, this might be your best option. With outpatient treatment, you can still maintain a job and live with your family as usual. This is the least disruptive form of treatment but is also the least intense. Therefore, if you feel that you will need more support to kick your habit than this type of program can provide, you should seek a drug treatment rehab center that will allow you to participate in a half day or residential treatment program.

Choosing the right type of treatment program is essential for success. By choosing a program that does not provide you with enough support, you may not be able to successfully overcome your addiction. While the thought of being able to still live at home and to be with your family may be tempting, you need to be honest with yourself when determining if an outpatient program will be enough for you.

On the other hand, choosing a program that is too restrictive may cause you to become depressed and may make you feel isolated. Being away from those that you love and that care about you can make the process more difficult. If you know that you are not ready to be away from your family, you might want to consider a less restrictive program. Of course, if your addiction is immediately life-threatening of if it is destroying the lives of those around you, you will be helping yourself and your family more if you get as much help as possible to beat your addiction.

If you are still uncertain as to which type of program is best for you, take the time to discuss each type of program with a representative from the drug treatment rehab center. With that person’s help, you can develop the program that will be the best suited for you and your family.
